  1. Hi Matt!

I'd like to answer the fourth question.

In Ancient Egypt, it's believed that eye make-up could protect people from evil spirits and improve the sight.
Also in other countries, indigenous people wear makeup for religious meaning, improve a fighting spirit and so on.
So the meanings of makeup differ with countries, ages, and tribes.

    See you next class!

  2. Hi, Matt!
I would like to answer third question.
In Japan, very few men wear skirts.
However, in England, some men wear them, especially when they play some kind of musical instruments.
    I think it's sounds interesting!!

    See you next class.

  3. Hello Matt!
I answer to the first question.
There are many similalities to modern world's fashion. Many patterns are on the cloth. Jackets which soldiers wore are similar to coats nowadays.
    I also saw the differences:
Generally, people used so much material to make clothes. We wear not only long coats but also tank tops if it is hot. I find it is different from the modern world. People in that days were not allowed to show their skin so much because of the religion. But now, we can decide what we wear.

    See you on Thursday!

  4. Hi, Matt!

I'd like to answer the third question.
In Japan, it's pretty popular for girls to wear short skirts.
However, in India, it isn't good thing that girls wear ones. I went there last summer, and I found no girl wears short skirt. Instead, most of them wore colourful tight long pants. they looked good on the girls.
I think when you see fashion of girls in each country, you can also see gender difference there. That's really interesting.

    See you then!

  5. Hi,Matt!

I would like to answer the second question.
The video was so interesting and so cool!
I think the fashion on the video is still so fashionable nowadays. In those days all people thought that the fashion on the video was so cool, but now some people like such a fashion as a smart dresser.
When I read fashion magazines, I often see people wearing clothes that are out of date on purpose. For example, fashionable people wear denim jacket and denim pants as people liked this fashion in the eighties.I think this style is unusual, but so fashionable.
I'm sure that popularity of fashion come back.
I'm also given clothes that my mother wore when she was young.

  6. Hi, Matt!

I'll answer to the question no.3
In Japan we have a fashion called rolita fashion.
I don't like such fashion but some girls like to wear fancy dresses with a headdress,knee-high socks, and high heel/platform shoes. You can see them in Harajuku.

  7. Hello, Matt!

I'd like to answer the first question.
When I saw this video, I thought less people wear trousers than today we do.
I've heard that trousers started to be worn by nomads, who ride animals like horses.
I guess it has something to do with what I thought.

    See you!

  9. Hi, Matt!
I'd like to answer the third question.
(I wanted to watch the first video, but I could't...why?)

Many things has been changed as for fashion.
Especially, I think the hair styles of boys in 1960s are very old-fashioned... It's "dasai"!

However, I think fashion repeats itself.
For example, the girls wore the dress of floral design in 1950s. It's in fashion today, too!
Moreover, many girls wore the clothes like boys in 1980s. It's unisex fashion, I think.
I read a fashion magazine yesterday, it said that many fashion models wear unisex clothes.

    It was an interesting video!

  11. Hi, Matt!

I watched the first video. It was very interesting! I noticed that many people in the video wore a hat or a veil. And I think almost all of the clothes were probably without buttons...at least I couldn't find so many. And what I found similar to our modern clothes is...the clothes in the video looked like kinds of formal dresses of today. By the way, the back ground music was also really good!

  12. Hi, Matt!

I'd like to answer the third question.
I heard that, in France, "Tabi shoes" are very popular these days.
"Tabi shoes" are the shoes shaped like Tabi.
Tabi is of course, the Japanese traditional socks.
    I think it's really interesting!
I'd like to try Tabi shoes.

    See you tomorrow!

  13. Hi, Matt!

I would like to answer the second question.
It seems that a dress in fashion these day and, in 1950's, also a dress was popular.

I think the fashion runs in circle. The fashion in the past and in the future may be similar.

Anyway, it is difficult for me to understand the fashion because the fashion seems to be too imaginative.

    See you, tomorrow.

  14. Hi, Matt!

I would like to answer the third question.
In Japan, some boys wear their school uniform pants loosely as a fashion.
And some girls wear socks loosely...but I think this fashion is not so popular recently.

See you in the next class!

  15. Good morining Matt! I'm sleepy...

I'd like to answer the 4th question. In America,
when the discrimination against blacks remained, black people maked up in order to become like whites. People put the foundation to make their skin white. Once, men had also make up. It is not suprising because now, in Japan, people on TV make up a little. I think make up is common in not only women but men.
I think it is interesting to learn about the history of make up.

  16. hi, Matt!
I want to answer the third question. In Japan, we have a various kinds of fashion, like harajyuku-kei, v-kei, urahara-kei etc...they look mess and I really don't like it, but it is good to take care about clothes, anyway. Before, I heard that French people are likely to wear something black, but they use the colorful skirves or necklesses. That interested me, but I don't like black clothes, it doesn't suit me.

  17. Hello, Matt.

    The 4th question:
In Japan, since the Kofun period, certain ladies had a habit of blackening the teeth.
I don't know the purpose, but it ended in the Meiji period.
Now we can see blackened teeth only in Kabuki and some limited places.

  18. Hi Matt.
I'm sorry but I can't see the first video somehow....
So I would like to answer the 3rd question.
In contempolary Japn there are a lot of tastes for fashion, especially for girls'fashion.
    You see,that's really really various,
for exemple; gosu-rori(classic but new style mixed of Gothic and Lolita), mori-girl(natural style) and age-fashion(gaudy style)
Japanese girls display their originality about fashion.

  19. Hi, Matt!
I'd like to answer the 1st question.
I thought it wouldn't be unnatural to wear their clothes, especially in religious places or situations.
However, I thought the things they were wearing on the heads were too showy to wear in these days.
I want to try it someday.

    See you!

  20. Hi,Matt!

    I'm answering the second question.
This video is nice because simple but easy to understand!!
I'd like to compare the 50s' and 2000s' fasion.
I think they are very similar to each other because they look more formal than others(1960s'-1990s'). And they have another point in common.
That is the upper parts are fit bodies but the skirts are very billowing. I like this style!

    See you later.

  21. Hi Matt.

I'd like to answer the 2nd question.
I think the 50's fashion is similar to the 2000's. But there are some differences, of course, the former is more simple design and the color is monochromatic. the latter is sophisticated and colorful.
The 90's fashion seems to be more tight I think. But 2000's, seems to come back into old. Why? I'm interesting.

    See you.

  22. Hello, Matt!

I would like to answer the second question.
In the video I saw the American fashion change. However it is difficult for me to explain what has changed...
Maybe the shapes of the sleeves or the skirts have changed. Also they put on makeup differently.
On the other hand, people of all periods like the vivid color.

    see you!

I'd like to answer the 3rd question.
About one month ago, I was astounded by Lady Gaga whose dress was the raw beef!! She always wear the eccentric clothes, and I think she is creating new fashion in not U.S.A. but world.
But I can't wear the clothes skillfully like her

  26. Hi,Matt!

I would like to answer the second question.

The video is so interesting! There are some famous actors and actresses many people are missing in the video.

I think the old fashion is cuter than now.But various colors in the fashion is the same. And I think they want to show their perfect body line through short and slim clothes.

    See you.
